ODERZO (TREVISO) – Crackdown on those who park with motor vehicles in the main city squares. If they dirty the trachyte slabs, or the flooring laid in recent years as in Piazza Castello, they risk a fine of 500 euros. The city council decided this by modifying the urban police regulation. «We asked the police commander to modify the urban police regulation, in order to ensure that the pollution of Piazza Castello, Piazza Grande and Piazza Carducci by those who stop there is contained as much as possible – explains the deputy mayor with responsibility for the Environment Alessio Bianco – it was a necessity.”

THE PROBLEM

It’s not just about those who stop with motor vehicles, such as pickup trucks and vans, on the days of the Wednesday market and the Saturday morning Farmer’s Market. The city squares are also very popular for events, fairs and the most diverse events. «Activities that use vehicles with internal combustion engines and therefore vehicles that can leak oil slicks must put a protection under the vehicle – is the explanation given by the vice mayor Bianco – The previous regulation provided that whoever had the authorization to access the square by means of transport had the obligation to put a protection under the vehicle in order to prevent you stain the flooring.” With one option: if the mess occurred, i.e. the oil stain spread under the vehicle until it reached the pavement of the square, when the case occurred the local police warned the owner of the vehicle.

WHAT CHANGES

Now this warning will no longer be there: we will move directly to the fine, which has been set at 499 euros. The city council removed from the regulation the fact that the owner was somehow “notified”, before proceeding, if the problem arose again, to the actual fine. Now what we could define as a reproach will no longer be there, we will have to reach for our wallet immediately. «We said: well, let’s eliminate what the regulation indicates as a warning to the transgressor – details the deputy mayor – So that he can be sanctioned immediately if he doesn’t wear protection». For the sake of truth, it is worth saying that the vast majority of operators who park their vehicles in city squares are far-sighted and spread a large piece of cardboard under the vehicle. But, among many, there are always those who do not respect the rules and when the oil slick spreads on the trachyte slabs afterwards it is difficult to remedy it.
