“Capaci’s Oil” to Bishop Massara. In memory of the mafia massacre

The ampoule containing the Capaci oil was delivered to the Archbishop of the Diocese of Fabriano and Camerino Francesco Massara. The director of the Commissariat, Angelo Sebastianelli, with a small delegation of policemen, went to the episcope where he met Bishop Massara. The memory of the massacre was taken up again by the police station manager who, during his service at the Palermo police station, had the opportunity to meet and work with all of Capaci’s heroes. “There were 400 of us at the escort office in Palermo – recalls the chief commissioner Sebastianelli – Giovanni Falcone had his own escort and between 1988 and 1989 I happened to replace those who were on holiday or absent. I was just 22 years old and I met the policemen who died in the massacre. The escort in that period consisted of two cars and two behind Falcone’s plus the helicopter. It was not uncommon for us to wait in front of the Palermo court for Falcone to come out until he called to say that he had returned to home by leaving anonymously.” The “Olio di Capaci” is a flask of extra virgin olive oil obtained from the cultivation in the area where, on 23 May 1992, an attack caused the death of both the magistrates Giovanni Falcone and his wife Francesca Laura Morvillo , also of the policemen Vito Schifani, Rocco Dicillo and Antonio Montinaro. The green area is looked after by the “Quarto Savona 15” association (radio theme song of the escort car): several olive trees stand there, dedicated to the martyrs of the institutions who fell at the hands of the mafia.
