A general trend highlighted that users are still too tied together a Windows 10. Yet, recently, it seems that the situation is changing. Slowly Windows 11 is gaining ground on its predecessor.
The data released by StatCounter highlight that Windows11 showed a significant growth. These are considerable values, considering that it is the first time, since release, that support records growth. Specifically, the latter appears to be installed on almost the 30% of PCs. While the percentage of Windows 10 has dropped below 70%. The percentage is, of course, still on the side of Windows 10, but what matters is the route change which seems to have started.
Is Windows 11 gaining space?
Analyzing the latest quarterwe note that the installed base of Windows 10 has dropped by approximately 4%. In this way it was brought to the 66,2% between April and June. There are two main factors which are pushing the installations of the new version of the operating system. The first is the imminent end of support for Windows 10. The latter is planned for the October 14, 2025. With the date approaching and the natural turnover of computers, it is expected that many users will switch to the new support. Furthermore, it is important to point out that Windows12 is coming. Its launch is currently scheduled for 2025. Such a scenario is an obvious reason why users are switching to the new support.
The second reason is the launch of the first Microsoft Copilot+ PCs. These devices, which integrate advanced features of artificial intelligence, have attracted a growing number of users. Currently, most AI-related features are only available on Windows 11. Additionally, all Copilot+ PCs ship with Windows11 24H2 pre-installedfurther contributing to the growth of the operating system’s installed base.
