Blackmagic Design has finally brought its popular Blackmagic Camera application to Android. The professional video camera application is free to download and offers comprehensive manual controls. These controls aim to make it easier to make professional-level cinematic videos from your phone.

In the official press release of https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/in/media/release/20240624-01blackmagic Design emphasizes that the application has the same “operating system” as the high-end digital video cameras that l the company sells. As for features, one of the main ones is the detailed Heads-up Display (HUD).

This HUD offers quick and easy access to some essential controls, including ISO, white balance, frame rate and lens selection. There are also frame guides, a histogram, and recording parameters. The Blackmagic Camera app also lets you play with other advanced settings. For example, there’s a dedicated settings tab that lets you select options like color space, supported codec, and more.

Like the iOS app launched last year, the Android version lets you capture a video in landscape mode while holding your phone in portrait orientation. The most interesting thing is that the Blackmagic Camera app can integrate seamlessly with Blackmagic Cloud and DaVinci Resolve.

While all of these aspects are nice for a free application, the Blackmagic Camera app currently has limited compatibility. You can download it from the Google Play Store only if you have a Samsung or Google Pixel device. The company hasn’t shared which phones are exactly compatible, but recent flagships like the S24 Ultra, S23 Ultra, the Pixel 7 line (256GB Pixel 7 Pro currently priced at $443.71 on Amazon), and the Pixel 8 series, apparently, they can do it without any problems.
