An uncharged Tesla could become a hot oven for a 20-month-old child trapped in the vehicle in Arizona. According to a report from Arizona’s Family, a 20-month-old boy was rescued after becoming trapped in a Tesla Model Y in Scottsdalewhere the temperatures reached 40 degrees. The culprit was the flat 12 volt battery of the car, which did not allow the windows to be lowered, making it difficult to open the car from the outside.

Cars TeslaIndeed, they don’t have an easy way to open the car from the outside when the 12-volt battery — the one that powers things like door locks and windows — runs low.

The owner of the car, Renee Sanchez, was taking her granddaughter to the zoo, but after placing the little girl in the Model Y, she closed the door and was no longer able to open it:

The phone key didn’t work, Sanchez said in an interview with Arizona’s Family, and the car key didn’t work either.. So she found herself forced to request help from the emergency services. Fortunately, the firefighters intervened on the scene.

Note that while it is not possible to open the doors of a Model Y easily from the outside, from the inside there is a lever to open the front door, and a cable to open the rear one, even with a flat battery. Naturally, the small age of the passenger who remained “trapped” did not allow this possibility.

The case is not isolated

Earlier this week, Arizona’s Family reported a case of a woman who was stuck in her Model Y, who was able to get out of the car once she learned of the lever’s existence. Last year, another driver in Arizona reported getting trapped in her Model Y on a hot day, only managing to get out with his sister’s help.
