The V12 engine represents the essence of Ferrari and represents the engine that embodies the racing spirit of the Prancing Horse. Whether racing or road cars, the roar of a V12 is absolutely iconic and recognisable.

Thanks to the V12 engine, Ferrari has written the history of the automotive world and we can find it on some of the most iconic cars born in Maranello. The union between the Prancing Horse and this engine began in 1947 with the very first Ferrari ever produced, the 125 S.

The Colombo V12 had a displacement of 1.5 liters and was capable of delivering 118 HP, but it was only the beginning of a long journey. Over the years, the engine has undergone continuous improvements which led to the birth, in 1962, of of the 250 GTO.

In this case, the engine Colombo V12 reached 3 liters and 300 HP, leading the car to reach a maximum speed of 280 km/h. These performances allowed us to obtain important victories in the International GT Manufacturers’ Championship.

You can’t forget the 365 GTB4 Daytona equipped with the 4.4 liter Colombo V12 and 352 HP of power. Track versions of the supercar proved its capabilities by winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans from 1972 to 1974.

In 1996, Ferrari chose to return to its origins presented the 550 Maranello equipped with the V12 in the front position. With the advancement of automotive technology, the engine reached a displacement of 5.5 liters and 478 HP of power.

A further technological leap was recorded in 2010 with the presentation of the 599 GTO which brings the V12 to a displacement of 6 liters and 620 HP. In more recent times, the tradition has been carried on by 812 Superfast with its 800 HP developed by the 6.5 V12. The iconic engine also finds space in the FUV Thoroughbred and in the brand new one 12 Cylinders which represents the pinnacle of all Ferrari technology.
