A confirmation was missing, it arrived today: For the third consecutive year, the duel for the Yellow Jersey at the Tour de France will be between Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard. In the Bologna stage with the double climb to San Luca, the first attacks by the men in the general classification arrived and the two announced protagonists immediately showed themselves.
On the famous Bolognese hill the Slovenian, fresh from his triumph at the Giro d’Italia, took matters into his own hands by launching the first sprint (an appetizer of what will be in the future) in the last meters before the GPM: the only one to keep up it was just the Danish from Visma | Lease a Bike, thus demonstrating good condition despite the injury suffered in the spring.
The duel between the two is written, but watch out for the third wheel: Remco Evenepoel. The former Belgian world champion doesn’t want to give up and he demonstrated it with the spectacular comeback in the last flat stretch before the finish line. Uphill he doesn’t have the pace of the best, but in a time trial he can make the cut.
Whoever leaves today disappointed is obviously Primoz Roglic. Much more was expected from the Slovenian rider of Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe, on a climb that is friendly to him (he triumphed both in the Giro dell’Emilia and in the time trial of the Giro d’Italia). Instead he was never in the fight, he suffered and paid 21” from his rivals, as well as a bad blow to his morale.
