Attempted rape. Nanni asks for cameras

When and if CCTV cameras will be installed in the area between via della Grotta, via Rampari di San Paolo and the new open spaces created in the ex Mof car park area. This is the question that David Nannire-elected as city councilor among the ranks of the Democratic Party, asks the mayor and the council a Question Time.

In the area, citizens have been “reporting drug dealing and degradation to the municipal administration” for some time now, but what has most shaken the city has been the attempted rape of a student out-of-town student Wednesday, June 19. “A twenty-year-old student,” Nanni writes, “was attacked and harassed by a stranger between Via della Grotta and Via Rampari di San Paolo. Only the timely and providential intervention of a residentalerted by the screams in the night, prevented the sexual violence against the defenseless girl from taking place“.

Hence the request to install the cameras taking into account that “In February 2024, the Municipality of Ferrara installed the first 11 video surveillance cameras in the historic centerin the area of the former Jewish Ghetto, thanks to funds obtained from the Ministry of the Interior”.

Furthermore, “the new generation cameras, positioned in the most sensitive areas in agreement with the Prefecture and Police Headquarters, should be a total of 17 in the historic center, 12 in the Pmi Diamantina area, 4 in the San Giorgio artisan center, 6 in via Bologna, 2 in Pontelagoscuro, 2 in the station area, 1 in Porta Catena. To these should be added 8 ‘Targasystem’ plants in the main access arteries to the city”.

To fulfill its duty to “protect the personal safety and well-being of those who live and/or frequent our city”, the administration, according to Nanni, must implement solutions such as that of implement public video surveillance (started but not yet completed) but also “restoring the figure of the ‘neighborhood watchman’”.
