Two Italian couples entered doubles at Wimbledon. The only Italian duo among the top seeds is made up of Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori, number 5 on the scoreboard and at the top of the Race, the ranking based on the best seasonal results of the doubles pairs which offers a constantly updated picture of the race for the Nitto ATP Finals scheduled in Turin from 10 to 17 September at the Inalpi Arena.
Bolelli, semi-finalist at Wimbledon in 2021, and Vavassori, who has never gone beyond the second round in doubles, make their debuts against the Finnish Harri Heliovaara and the British Henry Patten. The Scandinavian has never gone beyond the third round in doubles at the Championships, the Briton lost in the first round in his only participation, in 2022.
The winner will face the Spaniards Martinez/Munar or the Serbian-Indian duo Lajovic/Nagal. Possible eighth place against the Croatian Ivan Dodig and the American Austin Krajicek (10)
Flavio Cobolli and Lorenzo Sonego are also registered, making their debut against the Americans McDonald/Shelton. Whoever wins could meet the 12th seeds, the Americans Lammons/Withrow, in the first round. Possible third round, which corresponds to the round of 16, against the number 1s on the scoreboard, Granollers/Zeballos
In doubles there will also be Luciano Darderi with the Brazilian Fernando Romboli. The first round will not be easy, against the Germans Krawietz/Puez, number 8 seeds and semifinalists at Wimbledon in 2023.
