“When I became a manager, having had 25 years of experience, I tried to make the most of this experience and try to support those who are very young guys. You always see the beautiful thing, but you don’t see the pressure point. In my opinion there is still a lot to work on there and it is still unexpressed territory, because the many foreign properties that arrive do not know the subject well and do not even want to face that type of problem because they don’t even have the tools to deal with it” a topic that he himself evidently had to address with the Rossoneri owners at the time.
Then Maldini continued, bluntly, with what seemed to be a more veiled reference:
“I always say that they are not tangible things, but they make the fortunes of clubs. And the intangible things, they can hardly be explained in an Excel sheet to the owner, they are beyond the reach or possibility of control of an owner. It seems like you have a magic formula, but it’s not, it’s something that brought you to success if you had it. Success doesn’t just mean winning, it also means trying to do your best.”
