Tennis – Cobolli in the quarterfinals in Eastbourne. Jasmine Paolini also reached the quarterfinals in the women’s event

Another day of tennis with a view to approaching Wimbledon, with the last grass tournaments proceeding towards the hot phases. The most significant victory is that of Flavio Cobolliwho continues his run at the ATP 250 in Eastbourne and does so by overtaking the host Hussey with a score of 4-6 6-3 6-4. A comeback victory for Cobolli against a player who was decidedly lower in the rankings but certainly had more experience on this surface. Cobolli thus finds the quarterfinals where he will however challenge another Englishman, even more insidious: the wild card Harris.

Instead the race stops Lorenzo Sonego. The Piedmontese suffered a defeat in 2 sets against the serve and volley of Max Purcell. The Australian in fact imposed himself with a double 6-4. Italy therefore remains with only Cobolli in the men’s draw.

In the women’s category, however, the race continues in Eastbourne Jasmine Paolini. The No. 3 seed advanced Elise Mertens For 5-2 and retirement. At the end of the first set the Belgian tennis player retired, thus leaving room for Jasmine and a rather interesting challenge. In fact, the Englishman will be in the quarterfinals Katie Boulteran expert player on this surface and winner of the Nottingham tournament a couple of weeks ago.

He also surrenders at the ATP 250 in Mallorca Fabio Fognini. On the grass of the Balearics, Fabio had a hard-fought match against the very promising Czech Jakub Mensik. The Ligurian wins the first set but in the end Mensik comes out at a distance to prevail 4-6 6-3 7-5. In Mallorca, therefore, a tournament without any more Italians also in view of the defeat suffered yesterday by Luciano Darderi.
