Registrations up 15% in June and electrics double

Incentives are boosting the Italian car market. In June, registrations increased by 15% compared to the same month in 2023, exceeding 160,000 units. Electric vehicles have seen a strong increase, benefiting more than other fuels from the new subsidies: sales of battery-powered cars have more than doubled, reaching 13,285 units and obtaining a market share of 8.3%.

Electric cars

In the first six months of the year, the total number of electric cars sold in Italy reached 34,709 units, up 6.2% compared to the same period in 2023. As of June 30, the Italian electric fleet stood at 251,023 cars. “The effect of the orders made with the new Ecobonus will be fully revealed with deliveries in the coming months, but for the entire year we cannot expect results that are too different from 2023 in terms of full electric registrations,” observes the president of Motus-E, Fabio Pressi. “In any case, the success of the incentives demonstrates that Italy can catch up with other European giants in the electric car adoption curve». In May, France, Germany and the United Kingdom recorded a market share of battery-powered vehicles of 17%, 12.6% and 17.6% respectively.

Stellantis’ performance

Overall, Stellantis has seen registrations rise again in
Italy, although at a slower pace than the rest of the market, which grew by 15.02%. Last month, the group recorded 48,254 registrations, up 11.3%. In the first six months of the year, according to Dataforce data, Stellantis registered 283,642 vehicles, up 1.5% compared to 279,544 in the same period of 2023. In the six months, the market share is 31.9% (from 33.2%).
