Virtus Bologna’s announcement to give up the senior women’s sector was a real earthquake, with the V Nere team not taking part in the next Serie A1 championship. The day before yesterday, in fact, theSerie A1 sector meeting of the women’s Legabasket and among the items on the agenda is the renunciation of Bologna. And the final statement is very harsh towards the choice of the company led by Baraldi. “The assembly unanimously expresses its bitterness at the sudden renunciation of participation in Serie A1 by Virtus Bologna, which has had as a consequence a negative impact on Italian women’s basketball and in general on the entire national basketball movement” we read in the press release.

But it is the next sentence that risks causing long legal consequences. Legabasket, in fact, stated that “in this regard, the Lega Basket Femminile is evaluating together with its lawyers the possibility of taking action against the Virtus Bologna company for the considerable damage suffered in terms of image”.

Born in 2019, the women’s Virtus Bologna immediately entered Serie A1 and in these five years they reached the Serie A1 semi-finals in 2020/21, the final the following year and in 2023, while this year they won the Italian Super Cup. Also competing in the Euroleague in the last two years.
