Ivan Ljubicic, in an interview with Sky Sport, spoke about who the main favorites at Wimbledon are. The former coach analyzed the moments of the main Big names (Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic above all) and how they will arrive at the London tournament.
The 45-year-old’s first considerations were for Jannik Sinner, the new world number one and recent winner of the ATP 500 in Halle (the only one to do so while at the top of the rankings together with Roger Federer, a player that Ljubicic himself coached from 2016 to 2022).
“I think he is a beautiful example for young people. Not that others aren’t but he has a particular way of doing things: he doesn’t get excited when he wins and doesn’t make dramas when he loses. He does his job, he does what he says: his greatest talent is that of getting to work.
Jannik is like this, don’t change his character and he will continue like this and this will take him very high. How high? We will see. He has just won his first Slam and now continues to win other tournaments” is the opinion of the former tennis player.
Wimbledon favorites for Ljubicic
“Wimbledon is now around the corner. Federer won so many after conquering Halle. Let’s see if it will be Sinner’s turn too” he further added in the interview.
Then the native of Banja Luka spoke out about the big favorites for the event: “Before Roland Garros there were a lot of question marks, especially from a physical point of view regarding Alcaraz, Sinner and Djokovic who was fine but didn’t have the race pace.
Now everything is different: it seems that Sinner and Alcaraz are doing very well and they are the favourites. Nole has had surgery but will try to be there: it would be a wonderful thing. But, right now, my favorites are Jannik and Carlitos.
The first three-four rounds will tell us what condition all the protagonists are in. If the best survive the first week, they will become increasingly favourites” he concluded.
