“It had never happened to me before Paris”

Novak Djokovic has put Wimbledon in its sights. The Serbian champion, just under three weeks after surgery on the meniscus of his right knee, will try to participate in the next Championchips. Having arrived in London in recent days, the 24-time Slam champion has already carried out two training sessions to test his physical conditions.

Only at the end of the week, close to the draw, will the former number one dissolve his reservations and make a decision, in mutual agreement with his medical team and staff. The surgical progress is going very well.

The Belgrade native provided further details on his condition: “I can’t give you many details about my knee, but I can tell you that things are going well. The rehabilitation is progressing according to schedule, day after day we are moving forward, every morning I feel a little better.

This feeling gives me hope and motivation to keep going. I still have a week to prepare, I think that might be enough. I’ll do my best, that’s for sure, but I need to know where I stand before the draw“, he explained in the latest statements collected by the EFE Agency.

“I will only play if I am in condition to win the title”

“The truth is I’m not surprised to be here, my plan from the beginning has always been to try to come here and play Wimbledon, so that’s exactly what I’m feeling.

I didn’t come here to get through a couple of rounds, I will only play if I have the necessary confidence. I want to face the situation day by day, studying carefully how I am, how I feel and, above all, whether I can compete at my best.

If I see that I can’t play, I will give the chance to someone else. I’m not pushing myself to the limit, but I hope this happens in the next few days. I certainly wouldn’t be here without the doctors permission. In any case, Nole clarified that this will not be the last opportunity to participate in Wimbledon: I want to continue, only this year was different because of the injury I had in Paris.

It was unfortunate, but that’s sport. It is the first time in my career that I have suffered a significant knee injury, I am facing it day by day, managing this reality as best as I can with my team.

In the last two weeks I have dedicated many hours to rehabilitation, many more than if I had not been injured.”he concluded.
