After last week’s Global Pre-Olympic, the third seasonal stage of the Archery World Cup 2024. No podium in the recurve for Italy, which however they found again Mauro Nespoli at the highest levels with an encouraging fourth individual place towards the five-circle event.
Good performance also for Federico Musolesi, out in the round of 16 after beating two high-profile archers, while the other individualists (men and women), the men’s trio and the mixed pair were eliminated prematurely from their respective draw. The only Italian team capable of reaching the quarter-finals was the women’s teamwho however needed a sensational exploit to obtain the Olympic repechage via ranking at the last minute.
In fact, the final was needed in this Turkish stage of the World Cup, an almost impossible objective also due to the way the scoreboard was outlined after the ranking round. To reach the final stage and fly to the Olympics, the Italian team would have had to defeat in order Indonesia (direct opponent in the ranking), Taiwan (seeded n.7, already qualified for Paris), Japan (seeded n.2) and especially South Korea.
Tatiana Andreoli, Lucilla Boari and Chiara Rebagliati stopped halfway through the work, beating Indonesia and Taiwan by the skin of their teeth and then giving in to an extremely solid Japan. The Italian women’s sector will therefore be represented in Paris by a single athlete (who will take part in the individual competition and the mixed pairs event), thanks to the non-nominal pass won by Rebagliati at the 2023 European Games. At this point we will see who will be selected for the Olympics, with a probable run-off between Andreoli and Rebagliati as seen in the season and in the last two years.
