On the day when Filippo Ganna obtained the fifth tricolor jersey career in stopwatch individually, Varese cycling also struck a blow. Not among professionals – none of our athletes were registered for the time trial – but among those under 23 thanks to Christian Bagatin.

The 22-year-old runner from Orino he has in fact climbed onto the podium in the time trial dedicated to the top youth category obtaining a nice medal of bronze: the title went to the Genoese Andrea Raccagni in front of the Bergamo Nicolas Milesiboth competing for the Soudal-Quick Step and Arkea B&B development teams, World Tour outfits.

Bagatin is instead in force at historic Colpack-Ballan youth team which this year has a Hungarian main sponsor (MBH Bank) thanks to which he was able to compete in some professional races. At the tricolors in Tuscany (the time trial was held in Grosseto over a distance of 23 kilometres) the promising runner from Orino confirmed his quality against time already emerged recently time trial of the Giro d’Italia Next Gen where he was ranked tenth absolute. Christian, who is also the Lombard specialty champion, suffered a gap of 34″ from Raccagni while Milesi’s second place was just 9″ away.

This season is important for Bagatin with a view to a possible future transition among the professionals: an accident in Spain during preparation affected the first part, but the Valcuvian rider recovered winning a race on the national calendar (the Giro della Franciacorta), obtaining a third place in Busseto and a fifth in the climbers’ classification at the Tour of Hungary where he was the protagonist of interesting escapes.
