Benetton adds a piece to their squad ahead of next season: the Argentine scrum-half Lautaro Bazan Velez leaves Rovigo, where he played the last two seasons of the Italian top flight, and moves to Treviso.

According to the franchise press release, the number 9 has signed a contract for one year with an option on the second.

“When I learned that Benetton Rugby was interested in me I felt immense joy and at the same time a great desire to start this new adventure soon – the player told Benetton’s official website – The club, its history and what represents for the city pushed me to accept; furthermore, the extraordinary players in the squad will allow me to grow as a player and as a person. I can’t wait to start working to earn a place on the pitch and make myself useful to the team.”

Bazan Velez, who has 14 caps with Argentina, has also been called up by the Pumas for next summer’s tours, when they will receive France for a double match.

The 28-year-old grew up in Cordoba Atlethic, a club from his hometown, and was part of the Argentina 7s that won bronze at the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo. He moved to Europe two years ago, joining the ranks of Rovigo and winning the Scudetto in the 2022/2023 season with the Bersaglieri.

“With satisfaction we announce the purchase of Bazan Velez: a talented and experienced scrum half who will strengthen the department after the departures of Duvenage and Hidalgo-Clyne – says General Director Antonio Pavanello – We believe that Lautaro has the right qualities for the level at which we compete; we are confident that his arrival will bring added value to the team and that he will help us continue the growth path that the group has proven to continue with satisfactory results even in the season just ended.”
