Everyone has seen the images: at the second pass over Monte Grappa, during the twentieth and penultimate stage of the Giro d’Italia, a fan attempted to push Tadej Pogacar risking making him lose control of the bicycle and receiving insults from the pink jersey.

That fan then revealed himself, he was Renato Favero, a 79-year-old former football manager, and he had apologized to the Slovenian champion, explaining that he had been carried away by his enthusiasm.

The story now finds its natural conclusion in the choice of Tadej and the CPA not to proceed and therefore not to press charges against the fan. It was he who announced the decision and explained the reasons Adam Hansen, president of the CPA (the runners’ union), who told Velo: «The CPA examined the possibility of filing a complaint against the fan, but Pogacar asked us not to do so because he is an elderly person. At this point, since Pogačar said no, my personal opinion is the same. I think that our association should not undertake initiatives of this kind when the runners do not want to do so.”
