Alessandro Buongiorno was called up for the European Championship in Germany by Luciano Spalletti after an excellent season with Torino. Buongiorno recalled, a year later, his debut with the Azzurri: “That debut day was a special day. I wasn’t initially in the squad for the final phase of the Nations League. I arrived the day before the match against Spain and I didn’t expect to play against the Netherlands. It was a beautiful moment The day before he was a bit incredulous but then I faced it with absolute calm and it went well.” So on his debut with Albania: “We managed to get the equalizer straight away and took the lead quite quickly. That reaction is proof that we are there.” And the next one against Spain will be very tough: “It will be a tough match in which we will have to be good at keeping possession under their pressure and then when they have the ball, try to contain the wingers, avoiding one-on-ones in the open field. But always trying to play our game.”

Alessandro Buongiorno is a unique footballer: he graduated in economics and is now studying for a master’s degree. This is how he wanted to comment on his relationship with the studio: “Is very important. Study and culture open your mind. They allow you to think better even on the pitch. To think better about the various game situations, to better understand what the coach is asking of you. Obviously it’s not easy because writing down books in the evening when you come back from training isn’t very easy.
