Kvara: “My father took me to Naples! I’m happy here, the fans are special”

Kvara spoke to The Players’ Tribune about himself in 360 degrees: from Naples to Georgia to his relationship with his family. Below are various excerpts from the interview.

Kvara is told between Naples and Georgia

On the tongue:“Guys, we have a little problem. Because I’m from Georgia. And of course I speak Georgian. But I played football in Russia. And now I play in Italy. And not only in Italy, but in Naples (the best Italy). And now I’m looking to speak to people from all over the world. I’m trying my best.

About Georgia:“If you ask any Georgian, whether young or old, who will win the European Championship, she will answer: Georgia! The best food in the world? Georgian. The best music? Georgian. We Georgians are like that. She might look at you like If I were crazy to ask such a thing.”

On Dinamo Tbilisi and the experience in Russia: When I joined the youth team of Dinamo Tbilisi it was much more football and less beating. Because I knew that I could become a good footballer, following their teachings: if you look at our national team, most of the players come from that academy. But it was difficult. Like when I came to the first team and the older players were looking at me with that look, like: “Oh, this kid is playing with us now?” In those years I was still young and no one knew me. “Who is this little boy?”. I was 15, I think. There were adult players and they said, “Oh, now we have this kid. We will probably lose then.” They spoke, I heard them while they didn’t believe I heard them. “Oh, no, not him,” they said. And I felt a little like this….I wanted to cry. Maybe I’m poor, I thought. I felt bad inside. And at that point I said to myself: Fuck it, now I have to show him that I can be a good player. At that point my mentality became strong. Pure motivation. And it made me better. Then I went to Russia. In Moscow. I was 17, almost 18. I was still very young. And I lived alone. My parents were worried. My father was very worried and it was hard for me too: I felt the stress and weight of having moved away from my family.
