The grass of Halle will be the garden on which Jannik Sinner will take his first steps as the new king of tennis. After becoming virtually world number 1 at Roland Garros, the Italian has officially been the top player in the ranking since June 10th and has just entered the second week as the ranking record holder. Jannik is ready to take the field for the first time with the crown: in the 500 tournament in Germany, a starter at Wimbledon, Sinner will make his debut tomorrow against Tallon Griekspoor.

Speaking to Tennis TV, the 29th number 1 in the history of the ATP spoke about the sensations of being ahead of everyone in the rankings: “It’s one thing to win a tournament, it’s one thing to be number 1 in the world. I’m very happy to be in this position, a lot of sacrifices have been made and a lot of work has gone into getting here.” Sinner took a very short break after the semi-final defeat against Carlos Alcaraz at Roland Garros, now he is ready to play for the first time as official number 1: “This is a new beginning: it’s something exciting, I can’t wait to get back on the pitch, which is where I’m happy.”

The past week was without tournaments for Jannik, but they were still intense days. First of all, the return to Italy: “There was a great response from the Italians, it was nice to share this moment with all of them: I was happy to return to Rome even if for a short time, to see what the reaction would be ”. But all the number 1s with these messages were extraordinary, I would like to thank them one by one in person.” A new chapter begins, but Sinner remains the same guy he always was: “Me, my family, the people I love, my friends: we are always the same. It’s just an achievement, obviously everyone is happy and I’m lucky to be able to share these things with them, but at the same time I’m the same person I was a year or two ago. I love spending time with them and doing something different, riding Go Karts or playing cards.” From Tuesday it will be time to play tennis again and Jannik will do it for the first time with the crown on his head.
