The first victory at Euro 2024 exalted the fans of the national team and in particular the many children who were at Casa Azzurri this morning, a stone’s throw from the training ground of Spalletti’s team. At the end of the event reserved for them, the FIGC president Gravina invited them to follow the team’s training and Spalletti “opened” the entire session, not just a quarter of an hour as required by the UEFA regulations. Needless to say, the kids and their parents appreciated it and expressed their thanks in the stands with applause and chants. Very nice atmosphere which also affected the footballers, who were smiling and satisfied.

The starters of last night’s match did a relaxing job, while the Azzurri who were not used against Albania and those who took to the field at the end played a practice match with the Borussia Dortmund youth teams. In the first half Spalletti deployed a 4-2-3-1 with Meret between the posts, Darmian, Mancini, Buongiorno and Cambiaso in defence; Cristante and Fagioli in midfield; El Shaarawy, Raspadori and Zaccagni behind the lone striker Retegui. In the second half Bellanova, Gatti and Folorunsho, initially used as reinforcements for the German youth team, replaced Darmian, Buongiorno and Raspadori. The match ended 3-1 for the Azzurri. A goal from outside by Fagioli and one of the two goals by Retegui were much applauded. Today the coach will grant his team an afternoon of freedom and the Azzurri will use it to spend a few hours relaxing or to catch up with family and friends who have flown to Germany.
