The adventure of stops in the first round of the ATP 500 tournament qualifiers at Queen’s Luca Nardi. The young Italian tennis player, born in 2003, was defeated by the Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis with the score 6-2, 6-7(3), 7-5 after a battle that lasted two hours and 22 minutes.
Nardi struggled to get into the match, clearly losing the first set 6-2. However, the Pesaro player did not lose heart and, raising the level of his game, managed to snatch the tie-break of the second set, extending the match to the third and decisive set.
In the final set, Nardi showed character and determination, taking a break lead in the fifth game. Kokkinakis, however, reacted promptly, recovering the deficit in the next game. When the tie-break seemed inevitable, the Australian placed the decisive break in the twelfth game, closing the match on a score of 7-5.

Despite the defeat, Luca Nardi can take positive indications from his performance on the London grass. After a difficult start, the young Italian was able to react and put an expert opponent like Kokkinakis into difficulty, demonstrating that he can compete at high levels even on a surface that is not exactly suited to his characteristics.

For Thanasi Kokkinakis, however, the victory against Nardi represents an important first step in his path to qualifying for the main draw at Queen’s. The Australian, former world number 69 and gifted with powerful and aggressive tennis, will try to make the most of his experience on grass to overcome the obstacle represented by the Japanese Taro Daniel in the next round.
