RideLondon Classique 2025, the women’s WorldTour race will not take place: “The UCI changed the date without notifying us, in London it is impossible to move events without years of notice”

Bad blow for the RideLondon Classique. The women’s WorldTour category stage race, which has just seen its 2024 edition, will not take place in 2025. This was communicated by the organizers of LME, the company that manages the staging of the competition, following the official announcement by of the UCI race calendar for next season. The reason for the cancellation lies in the fact that the International Cycling Union moved the position of the competition on the calendar by a week, without, apparently, the organizers of the competition themselves having agreed.

“We were extremely surprised that the UCI, on March 26th, advised us that our race would be moved forward a week, from the weekend of May 25th to the weekend of June 1st – the words contained in a note released by LME – There was no discussion or at least no warning on their part and this news arrived despite the previous communication that nothing would change in the calendar, at least until 2026.”

The explanation of the organizers: “In London, one of the largest cities in the world, major events are planned many years in advance and it is impossible for the RideLondon Classique to take place on the streets of the city center on the new dates, decided unilaterally by the UCI. And given alternatives, at this point, are not practicable. We know that the UCI will not go back on this decision and will not allow two women’s WorldTour events to take place on the same weekend (the Vuelta a Burgos 2025 has been placed between 22 and 25 May – ed.)”. As a result, unfortunately, the organization of the 2025 RideLondon Classique will not be possible. It is a sad day for women’s professional cycling.”
