The locations of sports in Vimercate are changing. Football goes to via degli Atleti, rugby and athletics go to via Lodovica. An exchange of sports fields wanted by the City Council has prepared a reorganization of the location of sports activities in the two main centers of the city.
The decision is inspired by the intention of the Municipal Administration to allocate the sports center in via Lodovica to so-called “minor” sports, concentrating AC Leon’s football activity in via degli Atleti. An intent that was at the basis of the redevelopment project of the Oreno sports center, already commissioned and prepared in 2022, precisely to allow participation in tenders and other financing opportunities.
“Our intention to bring sports such as rugby and athletics to via Lodovica, dedicating the area in via degli Atleti to football, meets the indications and needs that emerged in the dialogue with the two companies that currently manage these facilities” explains Deputy Mayor Mariasole Mascia
AC Leon is in fact concentrating and developing its sports proposal mainly at the facility in via degli Atleti, also through strong investments of its own, on the basis of master plans approved by Palazzo Trotti, while Pirates Rugby – which has an agreement expiring in the same area of via degli Atleti – would need a space more suited to the goals and objectives of sporting growth of its members, as the current one lacks spaces for the third half, technical rooms and locker rooms; needs now met through the positioning of containers.
In agreement with the companies involved, we will therefore intervene on the existing agreement with AC Leon to allow the latter to manage two adjacent areas, while the spaces in via Lodovica, more suitable from the point of view of size and technical characteristics, they will be destined for rugby and athletics.
Mascia says: “In making this transfer, we will take into account the investments that ACLeon has made in via Lodovica from 2016 to 2023 (including the renovation of the grass eleven-a-side pitch and the conversion of the two training fields from sand to grass, ed.) , and therefore we will quantify the residual value of the interventions carried out and not amortized in the redefinition of the contribution for the management of the via degli Atleti pitch.”
“However, we maintain our commitment and attention to participating in new financing opportunities for our sports centers – concludes the Deputy Mayor –. Always with the aim of giving space to less practiced sports. Athletics, for example, does not currently have a specific facility and the courses are held in the Saltini school gym with the addition of some external spaces, while the facility in via Lodovica has all the potential to be adapted to athletes, with appropriate funding for which our hunt has reopened.”
