“This is why Alexander Zverev hasn’t won a Slam yet”

Alexander Zverev he will still have to postpone his appointment with the first Slam. The German, returned in the last act of a Major after the final lost against Dominic Thiem to US Open in 2020, he surrendered in the fifth set to Carlos Alcaraz.

The Spaniard became the new champion of Roland Garros and added the third Slam of his career, winning at least one on all surfaces. One statistic, in particular, highlights Zverev’s difficulties in the most important tournaments on the circuit.

In fact, the Hamburg native has the highest percentage of defeats once he reaches the semi-final or final: he won two matches and lost eight.

Toni Nadal: “This is why Zverev hasn’t won a Slam yet”

Toni Nadalin an editorial written for El Pais, explained one of the reasons why Zverev has not yet won a Grand Slam event.

“On the second point of the first game of the fourth set, after the great comeback of the previous set and after taking a 0-15 lead, Alexander made a simple mistake and turned angrily towards his corner to complain.

A quarter of an hour later, in the blink of an eye, Alcaraz was already leading 4-0 in this important set”, wrote the well-known Spanish coach. “If Zverev has so far failed to win a Grand Slam tournament, it is certainly because he has never managed to control this type of situation like at the beginning of the fourth set against Alcaraz.

Carlos faced him in the fourth set after a painful comeback without losing his calm, conviction and faith in victory. Something that is only possible for great champions. I offer Alcaraz my most sincere congratulations.”
