Great tennis returns to Emilia Romagna. From Sunday 16th to Saturday 22nd June the Sporting Club Sassuolo hosts the Emilia-Romagna Tennis Cup, the ATP Challenger 125 tournament, now in its third edition.

The event, organized by Master Group Sport in collaboration with the Emilia-Romagna Region, was presented this morning in the splendid setting of the Sassuolo club in the presence of Giammaria Manghi (Head of the Political Secretariat of the Presidency of the Emilia-Romagna Region), Antonio Santa Maria (General Director of Master Group Sport), Antonio Nicolini (President of Sporting Club Sassuolo) and Alessandro Motti (Tournament Director). Also present in the audience were, among others, the new mayor of Sassuolo Matteo Mesini, the president of the Regional FITP Gilberto Fantini and the provincial delegate Roberto Vitale.

The event is part of the program of sporting events, supported by the Emilia-Romagna Region, for the enhancement of the territory and tourist attractiveness.

“This year too there are over 130 events that as the Emilia-Romagna Region we promote at a national and international level – the words of Giammaria Manghi – Tennis has a large space with the confirmation for the third year of the Davis Cup grouping at the Unipol Arena and an important ATP tournament with an important main draw which is held for the first time at the Sporting Club of Sassuolo, we are happy with this because it is a historical reality, but also very current and with a great tennis proposal in our region. The ideal context for a tennis event which marks, among other things, how this sport has spread in Emilia Romagna over the last 5-6 years, contributing to the promotion of the territory. In the year of the Tour de France, in the year in which the Imola GP was proposed again, this tournament is no less important because it allows you to explore a sport with a large following and has found an ideal location to achieve great results both from the from the point of view of sporting entertainment and from the point of view of promoting the image, bringing a beautiful postcard of Emilia-Romagna beyond the borders. It’s a great systemic event that brings together a club, a player and an entity like the Region.”

“I thank the Emilia-Romagna Region with which in recent years we have undertaken a process of valorisation of this wonderful sport by focusing on 125 tournaments organized at the highest level, also for the budget invested – adds Antonio Santa Maria – Here in Sassuolo we have found a ready club and truly unique in terms of space, organization and availability. Playing matches in the evening will allow us to have even more spectators, an aspect that interests us very much as well as television broadcasting: the final stages of the tournament will be broadcast live on Sky Sport, while all the matches on Supertennis. Finally, I would like to underline that this event will be “certified” from the point of view of environmental sustainability, one of the first ATP 125 to be audited by Bureau Veritas”.

“With great pleasure, with a little pride and with a lot of enthusiasm we have the honor of being able to host one of the most important national tennis events in our club – explains Antonio Nicolini – We will be able to give gifts to our members, enthusiasts, technicians and to the students a week of the highest competitive level, where it will be possible to stay in contact with the athletes, the coaches and all the staff members who travel around the world on the professional circuit. The Sporting Club Sassuolo had been chasing this opportunity for some time, which came to fruition thanks to the synergy created with the Emilia-Romagna Region and with Master Group Sport to whom our thanks therefore go. We are proud of the choice made by the ATP, because for Sporting it means an important recognition and promotion, and therefore the green light to continue to think “big”. Thanks also go to our members, from whom we asked for a sacrifice in order to be able to set up the necessary structures and spaces in the best possible way and ensure the tournament was held with international standards. We are particularly happy to host all those who want to share this experience in our spaces which will be rich in content for both professionals and simple spectators and will be a driving force to involve even more people in the passion of tennis”.

“I am very happy that the Emilia-Romagna Tennis Cup is consolidated with this third edition – concludes Alessandro Motti – An edition that features five tennis players in the top 100, some former top 50 players and many promising young players who I am sure will be in the top 100 shortly. The location that hosts us is very beautiful, this is a club that has experience with tournaments and this will be a further added value to the whole event. The number one seeding will be the Argentine Federico Coria followed by Sumit Nagal, Alexandre Muller, Borna Coric and Daniel Altmaier and Luca Van Assche”.

The Italian “troop” led by Fabio Fognini (who was assigned a wild card) will be strong and fierce and will keep the “tricolor” honor high together with Francesco Passaro, Giulio Zeppieri, Andrea Pellegrino, Matteo Gigante, Marco Cecchinato, Gianluca Mager, Francesco Maestrelli, Alessandro Giannessi and the young talent Federico Cinà. Federico Bondioli, 19 years old from Ravenna, but registered with the Sassuolo club, will be the child of the tournament.
