Wimbledon: Nadal won’t be there

Now it’s also official. Rafa Nadal will not be at the start of the next Wimbledon tournament (1-14/07). Winner of two editions of the tournament (2008-2010), the Spaniard, after having played part of the season on clay, has decided to skip the swing on green in view of what will be his next event, the Olympic tennis tournament scheduled between the end of July and the first week of August.

Already during the press conference following his defeat in Paris against Alexander Zverev, Nadal had hinted that “playing Wimbledon before the Olympics doesn’t seem like a good idea to me” and that he “fears the change of surface”, given the insidiousness to which it would expose it from the point of view of stress on the psoas operated on last year.

“Yesterday it was announced that I will play my last Olympics in Paris. With this objective, I believe that it is better for my body not to change surfaces and to continue playing on clay until then. For this reason I will skip Wimbledon this year” he written in an Instagram story. In the same message he confirmed that he will be at the start of the ATP 250 in Bastad, Sweden, where Jannik Sinner will also play on the eve of the Olympics.
