Jannik Sinner, fresh from conquering first place in the ATP ranking, was welcomed back home with all the honours, including events dedicated to him and celebrations for the prestigious goal achieved. Despite not being able to fully celebrate in Paris during Roland Garros 2024, the Italian is enjoying the moment and, in an interview, talks about his mentality and what it means for him to be number 1 in the world.

“It’s something that means a lot to me. Being number 1 in the world means having had a great year, indeed, an incredible year with many successes and, obviously, I am very happy about this. On the other hand, there are always tournaments, you have to play in big events. It’s a great privilege to be part of it and I can’t wait to face the next challenges,” confesses Jannik in an interview on the official ATP website.

“I still had my last match at Roland Garros in mind. I was happy, it was like a relief. It’s a dream, it’s what I dreamed about when I was a child. At that moment it was just a dream. Being able to say I’m number 1 in the world means a lot to me,” adds the Italian.

Regarding his mentality, Sinner states: “I think it’s the greatest achievement in our sport, it’s the best number you can have. Everyone dreams of being in this position, it’s an achievement you build over a year. Now we’ll see how long I stay here, which is a different challenge. I wake up every day with a goal: to be a better player and a better person. I always want to work hard and with my work ethic, with my positivity, I knew something good was going to happen. When my career ends, I want to be able to say I gave 100%. This is my mentality, I have had it until now and I will continue to have it until I retire.”

Words that testify to the maturity and determination of Jannik Sinner, a champion who, despite his young age, has already demonstrated that he has what it takes to be great. The new number 1 in world tennis is ready to defend his record and fight to reach new, prestigious goals.
