The British Grand Prix at Silverstone will have a unique twist this year, as the entire MotoGP grid will use retro liveries to celebrate the series’ 75th season. Each team will reveal their special colors in a televised ceremony before the race weekend in August. Teams were asked to take inspiration from their racing history and choose vintage color schemes that will be used during the three-day event at Silverstone. BMW’s safety cars will also have historic designs, adding to the nostalgic vibe of the event. The new bikes will be on display live in the Silverstone paddock, with TV coverage and access for fans as part of the ‘Day of Champions’ fundraising event organized by MotoGP’s charity partner, Two Wheels for Life.

Honda and Yamaha have obvious choices for their retro liveries, with Honda likely using its iconic red and silver scheme and Yamaha opting for its iconic speed block colors. Ducati, on the other hand, may surprise fans by bringing back its silver chrome scheme, reminiscent of its original racing colors. Satellite teams LCR and Gresini also have the opportunity to pay homage to their most successful liveries of the past. Gresini has already paid homage to its late founder with a tribute to his 1987 champion bike, while LCR could tweak its already retro Castrol Honda scheme or explore the personal story of team boss, Lucio Cecchinello. Valentino Rossi’s VR46 team has plenty of options to choose from, with colors from his own career that would be perfect for the occasion.
