Diego Pettorossi qualified for the semi-finals of the 200 meters at the European Championships 2024 in athletics, thus joining Filippo Tortu and Fausto Desalu who were exempted from the heats and admitted by right to the next round (scheduled for this evening at the Olympic Stadium in Rome) by virtue of their continental ranking.
The 27-year-old from Emilia got off to a really fast start and was the protagonist of a truly luxurious first part of the race, then on the final straight the lactic acid made itself felt and he went into decline. Leonardo Righi’s student, now stationed in the USA, has finished in third place with a time of 20.56 (0.7 m/s headwind) behind the Swiss Felix Svensson (20.52) and the Swede Erik Erlandsson (20.55, personal).
Diego Pettorossi stopped within two cents of the staff signed two years ago in Rieti and has significantly improved the season (20.71 in Modena on 1 June). Promoted from the other series are the Czech Tomas Nemejc (20.54), the Turkish Ramil Guliyev (20.66), the Croatian Roko Farkas (20.70), the Latvian Oskars Grava (20.78), the Lithuanian Gediminas Truskauskas (20.78), the Polish Albret Komanski (20.81), the Greek Sotirios Gkaragkanis (20.91), the Czech Eduard Kubelik (20.91) and the Irish Mark Smyth (20.93).
