Formula 1, Alonso criticizes Leclerc: “He doesn’t look at the mirrors, typical of Ferrari”

The rain that fell in Montreal did not water down the controversy in F1. Fernando Alonso, despite the best time in Canadian free practice, vented his anger over the radio against Ferrari, taking it out in particular on Charles Leclerc. From his point of view, in fact, the Monegasque, fresh triumphant on the roads of the Principality, would have taken the last corner too slowly in his outlaps, during FP2, without caring about who was following him on the track. A behavior considered dangerous by Alonso, also taking into account the poor visibility on the circuit.

While driving his Aston Martin, the Spaniard, a two-time world champion, harshly remarked on the episode with a poisonous radio team. Alonso attacked his colleague: “Leclerc is the slowest of all in the last corner. No mirrors”, implying the lack of attention for the other drivers. And here came a direct jab at the Prancing Horse: “This is typical of Ferrari.” A dig aimed at the former team, with which Fernando competed for five years, from 2010 to 2014. Eleven victories were achieved, even if the F1 World Championship came down to the last race on two occasions. However, the episode was resolved without sanctions for Leclerc and the Maranello team, who were instead fined for taking to the track with intermediate tires when the second free practice had not yet been declared wet.
