The “1st Circuit of the Assi ex Cyclists of the 70s/80s” took place last Saturday 1st June at the Martellago cycle track. Perhaps we overestimated the mini-festival in its name of “Assi” but in reality it was a meeting of group of friends who played in the various cycling clubs in the province of Venice and beyond at the turn of the 70s and 80s.
USF Coppi gazzera, GS Coin, VC Marghera, GS Dese, UC Mirano, GSS Angelo, UC Daina Mira, GS Zanon Cadoneghe, these are all the teams that animated the cycling panorama of the time and that made themselves noticed both at regional and national level, whose representatives at the time gave life to this “reunion” with a somewhat “amarcord” flavor.

As many as 20 runners at the starting line led by the former professional Luciano Boffo and with other well-known faces of that era such as Bianco Renzo winner of an Adriana Cup with Martinello and Lana or Zampieri Michele, Regional Student Champion and winner of various races among the first-class amateurs and many others who distinguished themselves in the student and junior categories of the time.

The race was supposed to be an outing, a reunion with friends, but as the proverb says “the wolf loses its hair but not its vice” so when you put the number on the back of some of the runners they jump like champagne corks making the average at almost 40 times, despite the location where the race took place, i.e. the Martellago Cyclodrome set up for the occasion by the company of the same name as for a “real runners” race. The “thoroughbred horses” in the race were champing at the start as if for them the years had not passed and they were still in the glorious 70s and 80s.
Sprints and counter-sprints characterized the race from the first to the last lap, giving life to a real “Bagarre” worthy of the most fierce competitive event until the former professional Boffo left the group following the Italian Uisp Champion of Cyclocross M7 Vianello Mario and then mercilessly jumped him on the finish line.

At the end there was a great party with an excellent set-up by UC Martellago who meticulously set up everything from the arrival stage, barriers, sound system, tables, benches and tents for the 3rd half.
The technical commentary by “Big” Luciano Martellozzo was masterful and with his expertise and mastery of the race commentary he gave an extra edge to the entire event.

So everything ends in glory with the “third half” where everyone brought food to celebrate this “reunion” which until a few months ago was unthinkable but thanks to the “legendary” and “indomitable” Vianello Mario it was possible to achieve it in a big way . But now we certainly can’t stop and we are already thinking about the next meeting with our legs under the table to be able to plan the 2nd edition of this beautiful event that will make us many years younger. See you then in 2025 with the certainty that we will be more numerous!!!!!!
