the cross-border project worth over 2 million

TRIESTE – Defining the cycle route along the Adriatic coast in Italy and Croatia to promote the development of mobility and sustainable tourism: this is the objective of the new Cyros standard project on cycling mobility and intermodal connections between the two shores of the Adriatic. The Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, through the Central Infrastructure and Territory Directorate, which conceived and is the lead partner of the project initiative, will participate in this project, which formally began last March 1st and will last 30 months, for a budget total of 2.75 million euros, of which 2.2 million as co-financing from the European Regional Development Fund ERDF. This was announced by the regional councilor for Infrastructure and Territory Cristina Amirante, after the project was approved by the Interreg Italy-Croatia 2021-2027 cross-border territorial cooperation program.

The Region will therefore prepare a feasibility study for the verification and updating of the route of the Fvg2/b Karst cycle route with the aim of starting the design of the missing works and the mapping of the cycle itinerary. Furthermore, a series of technical training events of a cross-border nature will be organised, aimed at discussing the most correct way of planning and designing cycle paths as well as encouraging an exchange of good practices with Croatian partners. This is, the Infrastructure Councilor pointed out, “an important opportunity to increase the cross-border connectivity solutions of the regional areas included in the project which are part of the Eusair macro strategy in favor of the creation of a sustainable mobility corridor serving both cycle tourists and of all citizens”.
