A postulate that unites the world of motors in all its most diverse sectors, from that of boats to that of motorcycles, is the following: you cannot drive a vehicle without first obtaining a driving license. It can be a nautical license, a permit for drive heavy vehicles or the simple Driving License B that almost all of us have.
Only a few vehicles they can be driven without a license and among these, we have a couple that have become an integral part of our everyday lives for better or worse. We are talking about electric scooters and e-bikes, vehicles which, at least until the New Highway Code comes into force which could change things a bit, are accessible to anyone without particular permits, licenses or driving titles.
Even a manufacturing company that always has favored motorsports like Ducati it was tempted by the idea of attracting a different clientele, managing to include many cyclists in the list of people who want a Ducati in their garage. In fact, the brand boasts some e-bikes in the list. However, this is perhaps the most interesting as it boasts a particular motorbike characteristic.
So Ducati surprised everyone
A Ducati that can be ridden without a license and that can tackle any terrain: the new Ducati Futa is a new generation pedal-assisted bicycle already available on the Italian brand’s website. The most interesting thing about this high-performance two-wheeler, however, is the fact that it can also be purchased in an all-road version, a variant that allows the cyclist who rides it to tackle any type of route, even the most dangerous and hostile dirt road, without problems. Above all, without a license!
From a structural point of view, the Standard bicycle carbon frame remains almost unchanged, as does the general appearance of the vehicle to which however various options can be added such as a practical set of travel bags which allows the cyclist who decides to undertake an excursion away from asphalted roads to carry water, food and perhaps also a tent for camping.
The main difference with the standard Futa variant are the tires adapted for gravel-type dirt roads, much more suitable for out-of-town trips. The price? It remains fixed at 7,690 euros, a cost that makes the product suitable for professional cyclists they know very well what they are buying and will make the best use of the electric bicycle.
A parenthesis is then necessary for the vehicle’s engine which weighs 3.98 kilograms, is located in a rear position – mounted on the wheel hub – but above all boasts a power of 250 watts and 42 nm of maximum torque and operates completely electrically, combining to a Garmin control system that guarantees five driving modes exclusive for each type of route. An engineering prodigy from the Italian company which confirms itself to be very knowledgeable in the field of bicycles too, not just in that of motorbikes which it has historically dominated for years.
