La Gioiella Prisma Taranto Confirms an Excellent Medical Staff for the New Season

Also this year, Gioiella Prisma Taranto will be able to count on a highly qualified medical staff, who will ensure the athletes are in the right physical shape and safe throughout the season. This healthcare team takes care of pre-season exams, maintenance of the athletes’ health throughout the year with timely checks and diagnoses, both on request and with scheduled appointments.

The Dr. Vincenzo Tagliente, club doctor and physiatrist specialist, will be on the bench again during the home games. He will coordinate the entire staff including physiotherapy and osteopathy (managed by Aldo and Francesco Portulano with Giuliano D’Aprile, who will be introduced later) and will supervise the health team of the arena for any necessary intervention. Tagliente has a rich professional background, having worked at the San Raffaele Foundation and currently as Head Physician at the Villa Bianca medical rehabilitation facility in Martina Franca. He also collaborated with OSMAIRM of Laterza and the “Raggio di Sole” Private Rehabilitation Center in Martina Franca. His sporting experience includes the role of sports doctor for GS Basket Massafra and President of ASD Pallavolo Massafra.

Dr. Tagliente presents the new season like this: “We are still commenting on a year that has passed and a year to be lived to the fullest! It will be another exciting season of battles. Proud and happy to continue, this year too, to coordinate the Prisma Volley medical staff. Obligatory thanks to the president Tonio Bongiovanni, the Vice Elisabetta Zelatore and the DS Vito Primavera for the splendid confirmation in the Super League and for the reconfirmation of all the medical staff who, last year, worked in close synergy and serenity! The last championship, fortunately, did not present any particular problems from a medical point of view. Those few that emerged were resolved in a very short time thanks to the professionalism of all the figures involved. Thanks to our medical colleagues Giovanni Pisapia and Michele Pezzulla, to the precious presence of doctors Francesco Settembrini and Mario Ortino, to the physiotherapists Aldo and Checco Portulano assisted by Giuliano D’Aprile with the precious interventions of the nutritionist Francesco Settembrini. This too was a tough and sensational year at the same time! Sensational for having achieved the set goal, tough because in the most demanding championship in the world you have to be perfect in everything. So it was! The objectives are achieved with the unity of the team and, above all, with the closeness of the management which, acting as a glue, allows everyone to work to the best of their professionalism and abilities. This year too, the efforts made by the company were notable. We have already had the opportunity to meet the new coach Boninfante (waiting to meet deputy Papi) with whom we have already planned future commitments that will see us involved! Excellent impressions! In fact, right from the first meeting you can breathe an air of tranquility and a common vision of intent. The hope we can make is that the next championship will bring even greater satisfaction to all the Prisma staff than the previous ones, raising the name of this splendid city that is Taranto even higher”.

The nutritionist will be Dr. Francesco Settembrini, owner of the “Settembrini” Pharmacy in Taranto and former president of the city’s Order of Pharmacists. Settembrini, a native Tarantino, specializes in the physiology of nutrition and sport, and offers consultancy to numerous athletes and sports teams in the area. His pharmacy offers services aimed at improving the quality of life and sports performance, including the Bia test to establish the nutritional needs of athletes.

The medical team also includes Dr. Michele Pezzulla and Dr. Giovanni Pisapia. Pezzulla, head neurologist at Villa Verde in Taranto, has many years of experience in sports medicine and followed the team last season. A former national level volleyball player, he knows the dynamics of sport well and interfaces with athletes on neurological problems.

Giovanni Pisapia, hematologist and oncologist, takes care of the players’ general medical needs, carrying out in-depth analyzes at the start of the season and providing ongoing assistance throughout the year. He specializes in Hematology and Oncology and throughout the year deals with everything relating to the athletes’ general medicine, collaborating with the club for the well-being of the team. Present at all the home matches at PalaMazzola, he is not only a doctor, but also one of the first fans of Gioiella Prisma.

In addition, Dr. Mario Ortino, owner of the “San Tommaso” radiology practice in Talsano, supports the Prisma Taranto medical team. Ortino, doctor in radiology and specialist in ultrasound, makes his diagnostic skills available, using advanced ultrasound and elastosonographic techniques for the diagnosis of injuries. He also collaborates with other local sports teams, such as Rotonda Calcio and Taranto five-a-side football.

This excellent medical staff, present both on the bench and in the arena, guarantees optimal management of the athletes’ health and physical fitness, which is essential for tackling the sporting season in the best possible way.
