May 31st – 10.34pm – FLORENCE
Sassuolo is Italian Champion for the first time in its history. In the final they beat Roma 3-0 (after eliminating Inter in the semi-final) and celebrated a surprising achievement. The goals from Falasca, the own goal from Marin (from Cinquegrano’s conclusion) and Russo all came in the second half and brought immense joy to the Emilian club which only a few days ago was crying over the relegation of the “big boys” to Serie B. First time also absolute for Emiliano Bigica who in his career had won the Youth Italian Cup with Fiorentina.

The first attack comes from Roma in the 8th minute with Joao Costa who duets with Pagano and then unleashes a shot that ends wide. Sassuolo responds in the 15th minute with Leone serving Russo who fails to make the most of the opportunity and sends it into the arms of Marin. The Giallorossi’s greatest danger came with Pagano in the 20th minute who, fed by Alessio’s heel, found a good conclusion which surpassed Theiner. For Sassuolo, two minutes later, Russo kicks out. Same thing in the 39th minute when the Neroverde center forward (after an error by Keramitsis) misses his aim again. The first half ended goalless in a balanced match in which Roma started better and Sassuolo improved as the minutes passed.

second half
—
The second half opens with Sassuolo’s immediate advantage, following a corner kick, thanks to Falasca who coordinates in the 2nd minute and scores with his left foot after a previous clearance by Marin. Goal from the ex and 1-0 for the Bigica boys. Roma’s reaction was immediate with Pagano but in the 14th minute Bigica’s team doubled the lead: Cinquegrano headed the ball following a corner kick, the ball landed on the crossbar, hit Marin and ended up in the net. The League awards the own goal. The neroverdi spread and five minutes later they also found the 3-0 with Flavio Russo, after a ball lost badly by Oliveras. The attacker scored his twenty-fourth goal of the season and also made his mark in the final, after having impressed both Atalanta and Inter. After the Emilian trio, Roma have a great chance to shorten with Mannini, but Theiner still opposes. Federico Guidi introduces D’Alessio, Graziani, Misitano and Levak who immediately goes to the conclusion, but the result does not change. Bigica brings in Ravaioli, Di Bitonto and Parlato while for Roma he also gives space to Golic, who was initially excluded. The last attempt is from Graziani but it remains 3-0 with Sassuolo celebrating, while the Giallorossi leave the pitch with their heads down.
