There are around 800 (eight hundred) good reasons to declare the success of the XXXVII Edition of “Brindisi by bicycle”. In fact, this is precisely the number of members that the “Brindisi in bici” cycling rally, created in 1975 by the late Romeo Tepore, doyen of Brindisi cycling and historical figure of the city, reached today morning.

After five years of absence, therefore, the cycle walk started again from Piazza Vittorio Emanuele up Corso Garibaldi, with the flag-waving of the start made by the Councilor for Territorial Marketing Luciano Loiacono and the Mayor of Children Diego Caianiello and then winding along the various city districts and return to the centre, along the Lungomare Regina Margherita to the Scalinata Virgilio, where the final awards ceremony was held, with the presentation of the awards.

To be awarded by Councilor Loiacono and Junior Mayor Diego Caianiello, in order: the youngest cycle tourist, little Nicole Chirico; the eldest Mr. Marcello Branca; more original Luna Portolano who participated disguised as the video game hero SuperMario; Roberto Iunco disguised in 1950s style, Cristian Cocciolo as a watermelon street vendor from Brindisi; Alessandro Cazzato with his son Christian aboard a very particular tandem and Mrs. Rita De Matteis with a very colorful look also extended to her bicycle; finally, for the oldest bicycle, the prize goes to Irene Marseglia for having participated with a bicycle from the 1950s. We then moved on to recognition for the largest family, the Rollos with 22 registered cycle tourists led by great-grandmother Elisa Rollo.

At the end of the 2024 edition, the Tepore”, established as the first ever edition of Brindisi by bicycle since the death of its creator, with whom it spanned five decades in the history of Brindisi, overwhelmingly won by the Istituto Comprensivo Casale of the School Director Mariavittoria Caprioli with 130 students enrolled (school who also created the celebratory graphics that became the official logo of the 37th edition) which raised the cup to the sky amidst everyone’s applause.
