Matteo Berrettini withdraws from Roland Garros 2024: “I don’t feel ready”

Matteo Berrettini will not participate in Roland Garros 2024. The Roman tennis player himself announced it through an Instagram story in which he officially communicates his decision, explaining the reasons and setting his next competitive goals. In fact, the Wimbledon 2021 finalist will return to the field directly for the grass season, thus definitively giving up even the remaining chances of Olympic qualification for the Paris Games.

Although I am training intensely, I don’t yet feel ready to play more best-of-five matches. This is why I decided with my team to return for the grass season. Thanks as always for your continued support, we just need to have a little more patience“, we read in the Italian’s message on social media a few hours after the draw for the Parisian main draw.

After the bad ankle injury suffered at the 2023 US Open, Berrettini returned after more than six months out, reaching the final at the Challenger in Phoenix only to be immediately eliminated at the Masters 1000 in Miami. Subsequently the 28 year old moved to clay, winning the 250 in Marrakech at the beginning of April and losing in the first round in Monte Carlo. At that point a new unexpected event occurred, a flu that turned into tonsillitis and fever which forced him to miss the Masters 1000 in Madrid and then the Italian Internationals.
