Berrettini gives up on Roland Garros: “I’m not ready yet”

With a story on Instagram Matteo makes official the withdrawal from the Grand Slam on clay starting on Sunday

Matteo Berrettini also gives up on Roland Garros. With an Instagram story with the backdrop of a clay court, he explains that the preparation still doesn’t give him enough guarantees to face a Slam tournament. “Although I am training intensely, I do not yet feel ready to play more best-of-5 matches. This is why I have decided, with my team, to return for the grass season. Thank you, as always, for your continued support, we just need to have a little more patience.”

Berrettini is currently number 96 in the ATP rankings. This season he returned to play after the long stop following the serious injury to his right ankle. Seven matches on the circuit, five won to win the title in Marrakech, two lost: defeats in the first round of the Masters 1000 in Miami and Monte Carlo. Matteo also reached the final in the Phoenix Challenger in March (defeated by Borges in two sets). On grass, Berrettini won the 2021 Wimbledon final, two consecutive titles at Queen’s (2021 and 2022) and the Stuttgart tournament (2022).
