Initiative that unites the Municipality of Ancaranese, ASL Teramo and the CSM Val Vibrata

Ankaran. In full spirit of collaboration between entities, considering the need to intervene on emerging needs determined by the increase in mental health disorders, considering the evolution of social changes and taking into account the opportunity to also put ourselves at the service of the families of this territory, the Municipality of Ancarano and the Teramo Local Health Authority, through the multi-component CSM Val Vibrata team, have joined together in the “Volleyball Project” in favor of users suffering from mental health disorders.

The practice of sport is fundamental for the maintenance and acquisition of psycho-motor skills and also represents an essential means for the development of interpersonal relationships through team play. In the world of disability, in particular, sports practice can perform the function of promoting the education and integration of people. In addition to being central in the rehabilitation field, sport can play an essential role in promoting the achievement of autonomy and personality development. Group sporting activity should improve self-esteem and self-efficacy by broadening and restructuring the users’ negative self-criticism.

Among the objectives that the “Volleyball Project” sets itself, emerge the clinical, psychological, social improvement, the development, the strengthening of cognitive skills, the promotion of inclusion, the involvement of families, associations and institutions in the promotion of mental health .

“The Volleyball Project represents an important tool available to people with fragility who find themselves in a state of social hardship throughout the Val Vibrata area. It is important to be close to those who live in a condition of mental suffering and to their families – declares Mayor Pietrangelo Panichi – by supporting health facilities in making sports facilities available, as in this case, for personality care.

Our sports facilities in Via Fonte Monsignore, such as the Palazzetto dello Sport, can represent a place where we can give signals of concrete inclusion. I thank the Teramo Local Health Authority which, through the CSM Val Vibrata, proposed this important collaboration. I sincerely thank those who drafted and implemented the project, i.e. the CSM Val Vibrata team, starting from the Director Dr. Patricia Giosuè, Dr. Anna Salza TRP UOSD, Dr. Maurizio Branella CPSI UOSD, Dr. Ssa Catia Della Croce Psychologist, the operator Giorgia D’Egidio of the Day Center”.
