The national junior championships, namely those of the U18 and U16 men’s categories, are nearing completion.

In fact, the second leg semi-finals of the U18 championship and the first leg of the U16 tournament will be played over the weekend.

As regards the top youth category, the four teams still in the running have exited the two territorial groups of the U18 Title championship, made up of 10 teams each. Benetton Rugby and Rugby Rovigo qualified for the northern group, while in the central-south group Rugby Experience, a club from L’Aquila, obtained first place ahead of Fiamme Oro.

In the first leg semi-finals, double success for the away teams: the Abruzzo team beat Rovigo 20-17, while Benetton won in Rome 24-38. The return of both races is expected on Sunday 19 May.

The FIR announced this week that the final of the U18 national championship, which awards the title of Italian Junior Champion, will be played at the San Michele stadium in Calvisano. It will be played on Saturday 25 May at 5pm.

Likewise, the federation has announced the venue for the final of the U16 national championship, which awards the Mario Lodigiani Trophy. The final act will take place in Pasian di Prato (UD) on June 1st at 4:00 pm.

There are also only four teams left in the U16 tournament, but with a different process. From the six inter-regional groups, the twelve best teams in the area emerged, i.e. the two first-placed teams in each group. After a dry round at the home of the top-ranked teams, the national quarter-finals were played on 5 and 12 May.

From here emerged the four teams that will play for the title: Valsugana, Cavalieri Union Prato Sesto, Fiamme Oro and Benetton Rugby. First leg match coming up this weekend, return leg on May 26th.
