all the knots to untie

Roma’s project for the new stadium has undergone several slowdowns. Many problems still need to be resolved: from the acoustic impact of the Pertini hospital to traffic flows

NEW ROME STADIUM – In addition to purely field issues, one of the main topics on the agenda at home Rome concerns the realization of new stadium in the Pietralata area. For some months now, the project of Friedkin has encountered some slowdowns on the roadmap. Between accelerations and new possible slowdowns, the process for the construction of the Giallorossi facility, with a deadline set for 2027, continues to proceed in fits and starts.

New Rome stadium, from traffic flows to acoustic impact: what are the problems to be solved

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, it is said around the Campidoglio that, as long as Pietro Berardi was there as CEO, Roma were a model club. The stadium project was well underway, following the entire bureaucratic process step by step and constantly keeping in touch with the Municipality offices. As Rosea points out, however, something changed with the arrival of Lina Souloukou in April last year.

There hasn’t been a comparison for months. The final project was expected at the Capitol in December 2023. Instead, nothing has yet been seen. In mid-March there seemed to have been an acceleration, with the first core drilling in the plant area. However, after the discovery of an ancient artefact (a water conduit from the probable Roman era) located just outside the project area, everything stopped.

The area in question, with relative inspection by the club’s technicians and made safe by the Municipality, is that of the old Sdo (Eastern management system, for the integration of personal offices), intended for public greenery (the Pietralata park ) and where the Municipality itself has never concluded the expropriations from private land. Some of them have filed a petition for the usucaption of these areas. A case that will inevitably lengthen the time.

And then there are other problems that Roma will have to demonstrate that they have resolved in the final project: traffic flows, the acoustic impact with the nearby Pertini hospital, the environmental and arboreal surveys (800 trees to be replanted, in a larger number). The Friedkin company must first conclude the archaeological excavation campaign, which has yet to begin.

Subsequently, the project will be voted on in the Council Chamber, with the risk of having to go through the various commissions (Conference of Services and European tenders). Only then can the first stone be laid, from which the estimated 24 months of work will begin. In short, 2027, the year of the centenary of the club identified for the inauguration of the stadium, appears further away than ever.
