MotoGP, Acosta-KTM negotiation: new contract arriving

Pedro Acosta is the big surprise at the start of the 2024 season and everyone is sure that he is destined to write pages of MotoGP history. There was no doubt that he had talent, but it was difficult to imagine that he would already be so competitive. And it’s not just his driving skills that are striking, but also his maturity in approaching the premier class. KTM has a phenomenon at home and certainly wants to keep him for a long time.

MotoGP, Acosta and KTM forward together

The 19-year-old from Murcia is a special rookie and there are even those who predict that he could fight for the title already this year. He doesn’t think about it, he doesn’t want to put any kind of pressure on himself, he thinks race by race and is aware that he has to learn in order to constantly fight with the top MotoGP riders. Inevitably, he lacks experience and over the course of the championship this can be a factor that works against him.

Acosta has no shortage of requests, but he is very close to KTM and strongly believes in the project of the Mattighofen company. His contract expires at the end of 2024 and, as explained by Brand, provides an option for automatic renewal with clauses in favor of both parties. Pedro didn’t even want to talk to the other manufacturers and is negotiating to extend his relationship with Pierer Mobilitythe group that owns KTM, GASGAS, MV Agusta and other brands.

Pedro towards renewal

The negotiation is set to stipulate a new two-year contract, therefore valid until 2026. The parties are working to sign a satisfactory agreement. The pilot would get stability, a higher salary and even important status. The contract will be stipulated with Pierer Mobility, which can decide to promote him to the KTM factory team or leave him to the GASGAS Tech3 team. Everyone takes it for granted that the two-time world champion will land in the reference team, replacing Jack Miller.

In Jerez the contacts continued and there is no rush, even if the common objective is still to reach a total agreement before the summer. Closing the deal with this timing would allow Acosta to focus solely on the track, without having to think about contractual issues. And it would also reassure KTM, which would definitively block any new attempt by the competition.
