Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu has told how he transformed from an attacking player to a playmaker

Interviewed by Copa 90, Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu explained how he transformed from an attacking player to a playmaker under Inzaghi’s guidance.

You were an attacking midfielder, now you play as a playmaker. How was the change? Do you remember the first game? How did you react?

“Yes, everyone knows me as a number 10, as an attacking midfielder. It all started with the coach when Brozovic was injured and my first match was against Barcelona when I scored and we won 1-0 at home. From that match it’s I started it all, I continued to play in that role, I feel good and I think I’ve grown a lot in that role.”

Haven’t you been inspired by anyone?

Haven’t you learned from anyone?

“I learned from myself. Obviously I have idols, I watch players like Pirlo, but Pirlo didn’t defend like I do. So maybe for that I take inspiration from Gerrard, Lampard or Xabi Alonso. I take something from everyone. But I want to just be me same”.
