In an interview given to Marca, the Spaniard spoke about his 2024 made up of many successes but also a few too many retirements and failures.

No Monte Carlo in 2024 for Carlos Alcaraz, who despite having given better answers so far than in a 2023 full of injuries, still doesn’t see the Spaniard at 100% of his condition.

Alcaraz will return to action at home in Madrid, where he will face Alexander Shevchenko on Friday, after having left his participation in doubt for a long time.

In an interview with Marca, the tennis player spoke about the last difficult weeks, in particular the choice to withdraw from the Côte d’Azur Masters. “I felt frustrated, because it was a tournament we had decided to go and play, a very good tournament that I had only played once and I was excited to compete.. When you get injured, positive thoughts never come. It was a frustrating moment because it came so suddenly,” she explained.

Then he added: “Many times I don’t understand situations, I don’t understand moments and I wonder why, and if I’m doing things right: I’m sleeping well, I’m eating well, I’m training well and injuries come. In the end we have to deal with injuries. Even though I feel good physically, I have trained well, I am 20 years old and my body is not ready yet. I need a couple of years for my body to adapt a little to these rhythms. I believe that by taking care of ourselves in these years we will improve.”

Alcaraz also had to give up second place in the standings, snatched from him by Jannik Sinner who, instead, at the moment, is facing an almost perfect 2024: “For many issues being number 2 is much better than number 3. For example at brand and image level. But on a tennis and sporting level it doesn’t change: in the semi-final you will face the best regardless of ranking“.

In the Spaniard’s mind, however, there are also the Paris Olympics and the ambition of playing doubles with Rafa Nadal: “We didn’t talk about it. I met him these days, in the last tournaments, and the truth is that I didn’t dare tell him. It’s something that would excite me very much, it would be a dream; I know he would be excited to play with me too. I’ve already said a thousand times that it would be wonderful to play doubles with him in my first Olympics“.
