For over 15 years the tracks of the MotoGP have been the ring of duels between Jorge Lorenzo And Daniel Pedrosa. Intense challenges, initially animated by an unshakeable antipathy for King Juan Carlosimprovised peacemaker after the Spanish GP 2008. This dualism will add a new chapter, this time not in MotoGP, but in a real boxing ring. The idea was born as a joke, launched by Lorenzo. After a few hours, however, the test driver’s response arrived Ktm halfway between serious and ironic.

Lorenzo calls

On Tuesday 23 April, the Majorcan, twice king in 250 and triumphant in MotoGP for three years, posted a video on Instagram intended for Pedrosa: “Dani, as you may have seen, in recent days I have started training in boxing. As you know, I like challenges”. And here’s Lorenzo’s plan: “Fifteen years ago we had our ups and downs, both on and off the track. Now that celebrity nights are so fashionable, I had a bit of a crazy idea. I challenge you here, at the Great Price boxing club in Barcelona”. The Spaniard goes into detail: “It will be a match behind closed doors, broadcast on my YouTube channel Life lasts. I hope you will accept, see you in this ring.”

Pedrosa replies

So here is the response of the Catalan, three times king between 125 and 250. Again through Instagram, Dani replied with a clip: “Hi Jorge, I just saw your video. At first I thought it was a pretty crazy idea, but it’s also true that at the moment I’m in good shape.” Pedrosa adds with a smile: “Of course, the temptation to give you a couple of punches is quite strong (laughs ed.). So I accept your challenge. Tell me the date and time and I’ll see you in the ring.” The initiative immediately sparked ironic comments from the MotoGP riders. Fabio Quartararo make sure you want to book a front row seat at the event. Jorge Martin he goes further: “I’m applying to be a referee.” Bradley Smithhowever, sides in favor of Pedrosa: “Dani, I’ll bring you a towel and water bottle if you need it.”

rivalry

Lorenzo and Pedrosa began to challenge each other in 125 since 2002, even if only for two seasons. Daniel was too strong and won the title 2003. They found themselves in the middle class, there 250In the 2005. The outcome was the same: World Championship for the Catalan driver Honda, who repeated the championship won in the previous year. Three seasons together, with the same result: Pedrosa always in front. A result also motivated by Daniel’s small physique which was better suited to small displacements. The scenario changed from 2008, when the two Spaniards competed together in MotoGP. Dani remained tied to Honda, while Jorge chose it Yamaha before and there Ducati Then. Lorenzo proved more solid, winning three titles and beating his opponent in nine of 11 seasons. Now the challenge moves to the ring: who will win?
