Anticipation is rising in Montalto in view of the tenth edition of Memorial dedicated to Daniele Tortoli, scheduled for Sunday 5 May. Egisto and Marco Nannini will do the honors, representing the institutions will be the President of the Region Eugenio Giani, and for the FCI the Technical Commissioner of the national under 23 team Marino Amadori.
As always, it will be a Memorial dedicated to great amateur cycling on the Arezzo roads with the organizational direction of the Polisportiva Gs Montalto led by Mauro Cerri and his collaborators: the race is combined with the Petroli Firenze Trophy and the IT.TE.DI Trophy. and once again it presents itself as one of the most sought-after spring classics on two wheels.
Two hundred starters representing 32 teams, a large cast in terms of quantity and quality with teams from all over Italy, ready to compete with their athletes the coveted finish line at the end of 175 kmwith the final circuit to be repeated several times with the passage from the Bandella Oasis and the hard wall of the Laterina slaughterhouses.
A route that is anything but banal, that of the Tortoli Memorial, with departure and arrival in Montalto. The official departure is scheduled for 1.30 pm not before paying homage to Daniele Tortoli, a cycling technician of great value, who passed away at the age of just 58 in 2013.
Daniele has been a discoverer of talents such as Mario Cipollini and Davide Formolo throughout its history an excellence of competence and styleendowed with a natural charisma, a point of reference for all Tuscan and national cycling.
Personally I find it extremely poetic that this Memorial begins with the athletes positioned with their heads bowed. I like to think that this is a nice way for sport to honor and communicate the message that certain memories do not always represent the end, but can be new departures.
The Tortoli Memorial will be presented by Giacomo Biagini and Gaetano Pecoraro.
