No total reset, it’s not like that.
There are still many old guard players who can do a lot. Then when you change there may be some jolts, some stomach aches but there are many treatments to make them go away. Lazio must return to the center of the project. Lazio no longer exists at the service of Fabiani or the individual. This is something that needs to stop once and for all. We are paid professionals to work for Lazio and for the people of Lazio. It has to end, even if it’s the last year of my career. At a certain point the cycle ends for the directors too… I don’t want to use the word fan because I would offend the fan who loses money out of his own pocket, I am a paid professional but who really cares a lot about Lazio.
Zaccagni? There was a handshake, we worked until late at night. This boy was very keen to stay at Lazio, we want players of this type. People mentalized that he wants to give everything for this shirt. Last year I read and heard all kinds of things about how everything was done last minute but that’s not the case. The team started with 10/11 from the previous year, only Milinkovic was missing. One of the objectives was to find a deputy Immobile, then the other reinforcements arrived. It is a historical fake, only one element was missing.
Guendouzi-Tudor? A case that has no reason to exist. Guendouzi was at Lazio before Tudor arrived. Do you think we didn’t clarify certain aspects when Tudor arrived? There are plenty of these situations, of disagreements in the world of football. Then everything becomes clear. Guendouzi has a calf problem and is recovering, he is an integral part of the project. Then whether or not the coach chooses to send him on the field depends on the coach. This applies to Guendouzi, as it does to all footballers.
The market never sleeps and coaches are also followed, you can’t improvise choices. Tudor, in our opinion, did very well in Verona and Marseille, giving us the impression of being an element capable of starting a project with the club. We knew perfectly well that the way of interpreting football is different but we also understood that we had players in the squad who could be right for him. We are reviewing the scouting done in the previous months because the choices of incoming targets are different compared to Maurizio’s (Sarri, ed.) ideas, made up of setters.
Felipe Anderson? He behaved not only like a man but with dignity, professionalism and seriousness. The company did everything to keep him. But when he is faced with emotional choices… he went to Palmeiras, also losing money compared to what we had offered him, i.e. a five-year contract, I believe the third most important in the team. But he chose to put his life at the center of the project and not money. He and his family are people of value. Chapeau, an extraordinary man and person who never raised any problems. He’s the son everyone would like.
Nothing is complicated, I have been working in the world of football for 30 years. I have always found myself in companies where you had to start from scratch. Then with his seriousness and work he always said good things to me. I hope it can also happen at Lazio. I am surrounded by people from Lazio in my family, I feel an even greater burden. We could have done much better, we ruined ourselves a bit at the beginning, when there were no European competitions yet, losing huge points against ‘affordable’ teams. We have taken a gap that is difficult to recover, now we will do our best to finish the championship in the best possible way. We owe it to the club and the fans.
All the components that revolve around Lazio should make an effort not to go further and not say truthful things. There is a director who responds 24 hours and we are available to Lazio. Yesterday I was reading ‘Anderson at Juventus’, he says a lot about how untruthful football can be narrated. I would like everyone to stick to the facts and not to shop interests. This makes me feel worse than a defeat.
